This update introduces betting, a mechanic that aims to give the player more investiment while watching the auto-battler fights by giving you a reason to root for one slime over the other even if you do not own either. Betting should also test you ability to guess the effectiveness of slime builds by asking you to choose what slime you think will likely win, though this will be expanded when the games offers more skills with cooler effects and more synergies. I really like the watch factor in auto-battlers and hope that eventually the fights in slime breeder get insteresting enough to watch by themselves while the player bets and roots for their favorites.


Features:

  • Betting: before every fight players can bet a certain amount of money on each participating slime and receive a reward at the end depending on how well the slime ranked.
  • Names: slimes get random temporary nonsense names to help distinguish them better. Since slimes are very... perishable, I didn't think it made sense to require or allow the player to decide their names.

Changes:

  • Floating damage numbers get a red outline to communicate damage better.
  • Slimes have less hp than before to make the fights faster.
  • There are less unlocked Vat Tube and Mulch slots when the game begins, requiring more progression.
  • Dashes are a little longer to be more meaningful.
  • Attack skills are a bit more likelly to be inherited than the normal ones to help avoid your slimes "running out" of attacks.
  • Slimes that have no active skills will still wander around the fight arena and make their opponents chase them.
  • Slots will display what slimes are owned by the player through a little ribbon symbol.
  • The slime's information during displayed during fights has been expanded to also include their names and how much money you bet on them.
  • Slots will display a slime's age and their level alongside their sprite so you can view all of it holistically without having to check every individual tooltip.


Fixes:

  • Slimes flicker between left and right less often than before.
  • Rankings and rosters won't show empty slots anymore.
  • Player will receive their reward if they win a fight, a bug was preventing this from happening.
  • If you selected an objective of a higher difficulty, your initial slimes will be of a higher level to match this. This was always intended, but a bug was creating them at level three always.


Known Bugs:

  • Skills can develop in slimes that already have them seemingly making no difference.
  • You can be offered identical options for objectives.
  • The "dead slimes" UI will sometimes open empty without any of your slimes having died.
